Frequently Asked Questions
TICKET
Where is the best place to purchase tickets?
Booking directly through our website at www.giliexpressboat.com is the most reliable way to secure your tickets. You’ll find up-to-date information, current offers, and any applicable discounts there. We strongly advise against arriving without a confirmed booking, especially during peak seasons, as seats tend to fill up quickly. For more details or assistance, feel free to get in touch with our reservation team.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept both Debit and Credit Cards for secure online transactions.
Can I buy tickets through third-party platforms?
While it’s possible, we highly recommend booking directly through our official website to prevent any potential complications. In past cases, bookings made through unauthorized third parties were not eligible for refunds when issues arose.
Can I reschedule my booking?
Yes, you can. Please contact our reservation team at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure to arrange for a change in your travel date.
Exceptions may be considered under unavoidable circumstances such as severe weather conditions, volcanic eruptions, government travel restrictions, or other emergencies.
Cancellation Policy:
- Full Refund: For cancellations made 48 hours or more before departure.
- 50% Refund: For cancellations made between 24–48 hours before departure.
- No Refund: For cancellations made less than 24 hours before departure.
Refunds will be processed through our payment provider and may take at least 14 days after approval. For a faster option, you may request a cash refund by visiting our office in person.
Are there any travel restrictions for certain passengers?
As stated in our terms and conditions, infants under 3 years, passengers over 65 years of age, pregnant women, and those with heart or back conditions are not recommended to travel by fast boat. However, travel may be permitted upon signing a disclaimer form, which shifts all responsibility to the passenger. Please visit our office to complete this process.
What happens if the trip is canceled by the operator?
If we need to cancel your trip for valid reasons, we will arrange for your transfer to another fast boat at no additional cost. We handle the coordination to ensure a smooth and worry-free experience, because your satisfaction is important to us.
THE BOAT
When is the best time to travel by boat?
Generally, the sea is calmer in the morning, although this is not guaranteed. If you have a connecting flight in Bali, we recommend choosing an early boat to allow extra time for your airport transfer. Also, road traffic to the harbor is usually lighter in the morning.
What time should I arrive at the harbor?
It’s best to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure time. Please present your valid ticket to our staff at the check-in counter.
How much baggage can I bring?
Each passenger is allowed up to 2 pieces of luggage or a total of 25 kg free of charge. Extra baggage will incur an additional fee based on our standard rates. If necessary, luggage can be stored at our Bali office (subject to space availability). Please note we are not responsible for loss or damage during inter-island transport.
Will someone help with my luggage?
Yes, our porters will assist with loading your luggage onto the boat. Be sure to attach a luggage tag to your belongings.
Can I sit on the rooftop deck during the trip?
You may sit on the upper deck when sea conditions are good. However, you must follow the crew’s instructions and move inside if advised. Don’t forget your sunglasses and sunscreen!
How long does the boat and road trip take?
- Sanur to Nusa Penida/Lembongan: approx. 30–45 minutes.
- Nusa Penida/Lembongan to Gili Islands or Bangsal, Lombok: approx. 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on sea conditions.
- The trip from Bali to Lombok includes three stops: Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and finally Bangsal. Each stop takes around 5–10 minutes for passenger drop-off.
The land travel time depends on your hotel location. If you’ve booked transport with us, we’ll ensure you arrive at the port on time. If not, it’s best to leave your hotel 1.5 hours before departure to avoid traffic.
What facilities are available on the boat?
Our boats are equipped with comfortable seating, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, clean toilets, porters, and a professional crew including certified captains and technical support.
What safety equipment is onboard?
All safety gear follows International Safety Management (ISM) standards, including life jackets, life rafts, fire extinguishers, communication radios, and more.
What if I get seasick?
You can request seasickness tablets at our office. Try sitting near a window for a better view, and bringing snacks or fruit may help ease discomfort during the journey.
Are pets allowed on board?
Pets are not allowed for the safety and comfort of all passengers, and as per Port Authority regulations. Additionally, local rules prohibit animals from entering Gili Trawangan and Gili Air.
Exceptions may be considered if you present official health documents and notify our customer service team before your departure date.
TRANSPORT
Can you pick us up and drop us off at our hotel in Bali?
Absolutely! We offer a reliable and comfortable transportation service across Bali. You can book your hotel pick-up and drop-off directly on our website when purchasing your ticket, or by contacting our reservation team. Please note: each booking includes only one pick-up location. We are unable to accommodate multiple pick-up points under the same reservation.
What if I haven’t booked my hotel yet?
No worries — just let us know your hotel details once you’ve confirmed your booking. However, please inform us at least 24 hours in advance, otherwise we may not be able to arrange your transportation.
Can I use my own transport?
Yes, you are free to arrange your own transportation. Many hotels or tour desks offer this service, but please note it’s often more expensive.
For peace of mind and better value, we recommend booking your transport through Giliexpressboat.com — we know the roads, we handle the logistics, and if any delay happens with our driver, we’ll hold the boat for you.
Do you provide pick-up/drop-off service on the islands (Gili & Nusa Penida)?
Our transport service is available only in Bali. For Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan, you may coordinate transport directly with your accommodation.
As for Gili Trawangan and Gili Air, motorized vehicles are prohibited by local regulation. You can explore the island by bicycle or traditional horse carriage (cidomo).
What about transportation in Lombok?
From Bangsal port, we suggest arranging your own transportation through your hotel. Ride-hailing services such as Grab, Gojek, or taxis are not permitted to pick up passengers directly at the port, and prices from informal drivers can vary significantly. If there’s no other choice, you may try them — but always ask first.
I have a flight later today. Will I make it on time?
We cannot guarantee timely arrival for same-day flights. To avoid stress and potential delays, we strongly recommend scheduling your boat trip at least one day before your flight, especially during peak season when options are limited and trips can be canceled with little notice.
If you must travel on the same day, please inform us early and provide your flight details so we can help select the earliest possible boat and assist with transportation arrangements to/from the airport.
